To show that a sales transaction involving the buying and selling of a motor vehicle, vessel, gun, etc, has legally occurred, a Mississippi bill of sale form is drawn. These forms also confirm that there has been a transfer of title of the goods from the person selling to the person buying. These forms have to be approved by authorized persons.
There are four forms of bill of sale form in Mississippi, and they include:
Boat Bill of Sale – To buy, sell and prove that there has been a transfer of title of a vessel, this bill of sale form is drawn.
General Bill of Sale – To prove that there has been a transfer of title of personal properties, this bill of sale form is drawn.
Gun Bill of Sale – A gun bill of sale form is drawn to show that there has been a sales transaction involving firearms.
Vehicle Bill of Sale – In Mississippi, when there is a sales transaction (sales and purchase) involving motor vehicles, this bill of sale form is drawn.
A proof of purchase (a Bill of Sale in this case);
A Mileage Declaration Form (i.e. an Odometer Disclosure Statement);
A document showing transfer of ownership (in cases where this document has been misplaced, it can be replaced);
A driving permit that is approved in Mississippi;
In cases where someone else registers the motor vehicle in place of the original owner, a Mississippi Motor Vehicle Power of Attorney is needed;
Payment of Registration Costs; and
Document showing Insurance coverage on the vehicle:
For every person involved in an accident, $25,000 is paid;
For every accident that leads to damage of property, $25,000 is paid;
For every accident that causes physical injury, $50,000 is paid.
Proof of purchase ( which is a Bill of Sale form in this case);
In cases where the boat was previously owned by someone else, documents showing transfer of ownership is required;
A filled out application to register for a water vessel;
A filled out application to transfer ownership of water vessel;
Payment of Registration costs.
