Required documents for vehicle registration in Maine

• A duly completed bill of sale 

• The odometer disclosure statement - especially for cars that were manufactured within the last 20 years and are under 16,000 pounds. 

• The certificate of title that has been signed over by the original owner 

• Proof of excise tax payment (usually a receipt) 

• Copy of the application for registration (white and yellow copy)

• A driver’s license that’s valid in the state of Maine 

• If the vehicle was manufactured after 1995 then a blue title application is needed 

• If it’s a new vehicle then the MSRP sticker is needed 

• The applicable registration fees registration fees 

• Insurance proof that meets the minimum requirements in Maine 

• If someone will be registering the vehicle for the owner then a motor vehicle power of attorney is needed
